Submission Categories
1. Open Feature Category
Open to filmmakers from any region. We are looking for feature-length narrative or documentary works that capture the essence of the Bangla spirit. There are no restrictions on the camera equipment used. The best entry in this category will receive the "NYBFF Best Feature Film" award.
2. Vertical Storytelling Category
Designed for the modern creator. Submit films shot entirely in a vertical (9:16) format. Whether it is a narrative short or an experimental piece, we want to see how you maximize vertical space. The best entry will receive the "NYBFF Best Vertical Film" award.
3. Emerging Filmmaker Category (Short Film)
Open to university students currently enrolled in Undergraduate or Graduate programs. This category is for short films (up to 25 minutes) that demonstrate original storytelling and technical promise. The best entry will receive the "NYBFF Emerging Talent" award.
4. Youth Vision Category (One-Minute Films)
Open to students from grades 1 to 12. This is the place for budding storytellers to showcase their creativity in a highly compressed format. Films must be exactly one minute long, including titles and credits. The best entry will receive the "NYBFF Young Visionary" award.
5. Citizen Journalism Category
Open to students from grades 1 to 12. This category focuses on non-fiction storytelling and the power of observation. Use your mobile device to document a story, an issue, or an event that matters to you. The best entry will receive the "NYBFF Citizen Journalist" award.

Submission Authority: Only the director(s), producer(s), or an authorized legal representative of the film may submit an entry. By submitting, you affirm that you hold all necessary rights and clearances for the content presented.
Submission Limits: Each filmmaker or production team may submit a maximum of two films in total across our festival categories.
Previous Screenings: Films that have been screened or have participated in other film festivals or competitions are eligible and welcome to apply to NYBFF.
Previous Submissions: Films that have been submitted to previous editions of the New York Bangla Film Festival are not eligible for re-submission.

Format: All films must be submitted as digital files. Accepted formats are .mp4 or .mov (H.264 codec preferred).
Duration:
Feature Films: Must be 60 minutes or longer.
Short Films: Must be 40 minutes or shorter.
Subtitles: If the original language of the film is not English, English subtitles are mandatory. Subtitles must be "burned-in" (merged with the visual) or provided as an .srt file alongside the submission.
Quality: We accept films shot on any device (cinematography cameras, DSLRs, etc.). High-definition (1080p or 4K) is highly recommended.
2. Content & Rights
Originality: The filmmaker must own or have full legal permission for the rights to all content, including music, stock footage, and script material.
Prohibited Content: Films containing hate speech, illegal content, or excessively gratuitous violence will be disqualified.
Clearance: By submitting, you confirm that you have secured all necessary clearances for exhibition and that the work is not subject to any litigation or threatened litigation.
3. Festival Usage Rights
Non-Exclusive Rights: By submitting to the NYBFF, you grant the festival the non-exclusive right to screen your film during the festival event and to use excerpts from the film (trailers, clips, posters, or stills) for promotional purposes on our website, social media, and in marketing materials.
Archives: The festival reserves the right to retain a digital copy of selected films for archival purposes and for potential non-commercial, educational screenings post-festival.

Judgment Process
